The Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship was founded in 1990. The year-long program is part of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Our program trains two fellows per academic year and has trained a total of 35 fellows.
The Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellow’s supervised surgical experiences include all aspects of sports medicine, including arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle, ligament reconstruction, and surgical procedures particular to the athlete including overuse syndromes. The Fellow obtains outpatient sports medicine clinical experience under attending supervision for evaluation of acute and chronic athletic injuries. In addition, the fellow is involved with on-the-field supervised coverage of athletic events at the college level including, but not limited to soccer, baseball, and basketball.
